Tab Bar Layout
Changing the Tab Bar Layout
For details on other sections within Floorp Hub > Tab & Appearance, please check the following articles:
From Floorp Hub
- Navigate to Floorp Hub > Tab & Appearance (
about:hub#/features/design). - Scroll down to the "Tab Bar" section and select your preferred tab bar style.
Here, you can choose from horizontal, vertical, or multi-row tabs. Please also refer to "Changing the Tab Bar Position".
From Firefox Settings
- Navigate to Settings > General (
about:preferences#general). - Scroll down to the "Browser Layout" section and select "Vertical Tabs".
Here, you can choose between horizontal or vertical tabs. You can also configure whether to display the native Firefox sidebar.
Horizontal Tabs
This is the default selection. It features the classic layout where tabs are arranged horizontally. Since it uses a relatively small screen area, it is well-suited for smaller displays.
Vertical Tabs
Tabs are arranged vertically, allowing you to view many tabs at once. This layout requires a wider screen area than horizontal tabs, making it ideal for larger displays.
Vertical Tabs in Floorp 12 and Later
The vertical tabs previously implemented by Floorp are no longer available in version 12 and later.
This change occurred because Mozilla, Floorp's upstream provider, has implemented vertical tabs in Firefox, eliminating the need for separate maintenance by Floorp.
To use vertical tabs going forward, we recommend using the same vertical tabs provided by Firefox.
Differences Between Floorp and Firefox Vertical Tabs
The vertical tabs implemented in Firefox differ in several ways from Floorp's previous vertical tabs.
Please note that Firefox's vertical tabs operate in the same location as the sidebar, meaning they are not inherently designed to always display tabs.
While Floorp strives to ensure compatibility with Firefox's sidebar, some issues or conflicts may still occur.
Multi-row Tabs
At first glance, this layout resembles horizontal tabs. However, when the number of tabs increases and reaches the edge of the window, they wrap down and display in a new row below. This allows you to view an extremely large number of tabs simultaneously, as long as your screen real estate permits.
Limit the Number of Tab Bar Rows
This setting restricts the multi-row tabs to a specified number of rows. Once this limit is reached, the tab bar will scroll horizontally, similar to standard horizontal tabs.
Changing the Tab Bar Position
In the "Tab Bar" section under Floorp Hub > Tab & Appearance (about:hub#/features/design), you can also change the physical position of the tab bar.
Note that most of these settings do not apply to vertical tabs.
- Default: Displays almost identically to standard Firefox.
- Hide Tab Bar: Completely hides the tab bar.
- Hide Tab Bar & Title Bar: Hides both the tab bar and the title bar. The window control buttons (minimize, maximize, close) will move to the toolbar.
- Show Tab Bar at Bottom of Navigation Bar: Displays the tab bar underneath the toolbar, creating a layout similar to Safari.
- Show Tab Bar at Bottom of Window: Displays the tab bar at the very bottom of the window. The window control buttons will move to the toolbar.
Custom CSS modifications might conflict with these settings.
